FAQs
Below are some commonly asked questions. If you still have questions that you would like answered prior to setting up a face-to-face consultation, please feel free to send me an email using the form on the contact page.
What happens at the initial consultation?
Typically, the initial meeting is held at a mutually agreed upon location such as a coffee shop. We talk about the client's goals, reasons for wanting to hire a personal trainer, previous experience with exercise and fitness and any physical conditions or limitations that may have to be taken into consideration when designing an exercise program for the individual. Potential clients are also given paperwork to fill out which usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

When is my payment due?
Clients can pay for their sessions using PayPal, cash or check. Payments for session packages are due at the first session.
Can you set me up on a diet plan?
Because I am not a licensed dietitian, I am unable to prescribe a specific, day-to-day or meal-to-meal diet plan for any of my clients. I do offer practical suggestions and modifications that my clients can use to adapt healthier eating habits. I have studied nutrition, diet and wellness and have read numerous books on those topics so I am well-versed in the subject matter. I have researched and practice many techniques in healthy eating and cooking that have been effective in my life as well as the lives of my clients.
What equipment should I have for in-home training?
I ask clients to supply a minimum of 1 pair of medium dumbells (3 - 8 lbs, depending on fitness level), 1 pair of heavy dumbells (5-15 lbs, depending on fitness level), and a stability ball. That is all a client needs to get a total body workout. However, the more equipment a client has, the more of a variety of exercises I can provide which helps prevent boredom. A few examples of other kinds of equipment we could use during sessions would be resistance bands, weighted body bars, BOSU balls, Pilates rings, and aerobic step benches.
In some instances, clients have access to a fitness center/gym owned and kept up by the property manager or HOA. In this case, some clients may opt to train using that facility's equipment.

What is your background?
My name is Danielle Camacho Cruz. My desire is to ignite in YOU a passion for YOUR health & fitness by developing a program that fits your needs, values, and visions. I want to help you overcome those barriers that might be preventing you from reaching your wellness goals.
I wasn't always the health and fitness enthusiast that I am today. In fact, during my college years and for a couple of years beyond that, I was overweight, received most of my daily meals from fast-food drive-thrus and believed that walking the mall for two hours while sipping an Orange Julius was an acceptable form of exercise. I felt I didn't have the time or the means to "get into all that 'health-nut' stuff". I didn't realize how completely disillusioned I was about the whole concept of 'being healthy' until I started doing group exercise classes a couple times a week and researching & practicing healthy eating habits in order to lose weight for my wedding. I started having more energy during the day, sleeping better at night and - best of all - shedding serious pounds. With this came a major dose of self-confidence.
To that end, I want everyone to know that I understand worry, doubt and fear. I know the hard work it takes to make such an important life-style change. But no matter the difficulty, it is far from impossible. To every discouraged and frustrated person out there who thinks they can't get to their fitness goals, I have one thing to say: I did it. So can you! Let me show you how. My clients find me to be analytical, methodical, and an effective motivator. I enjoy working with different kinds of people and I possess emotional intelligence allowing me to relate to anyone. I have a passion for learning and take every opportunity to broaden my knowledge within my field. I lead a healthy, positive lifestyle and always strive to be a good role model for my clients.
I strive to instill in my clients that a better quality of life is possible through exercise, proper nutrition and a little dedication. For me, health and fitness isn't a hobby. It's not a recreational activity. It's an investment, -- an investment in your most important asset – YOURSELF!! Call me today for a free evaluation of what one-on-one exercise and nutrition coaching can do for you. This is your opportunity to attain the success you have always wanted to achieve.

EXPERIENCE
I consider myself an advocate, and a member of a global movement that is trying to get the world healthy, fit, and strong -- one client at a time. I earned my associate degree in medical assisting but learned soon after that my passion was in preventative health care. I realized from my own life experiences that health and fitness was not just for elite athletes and professionals. It can and should be for everyone. I attained my personal training certification through the American College of Sports Medicine, the gold standard in the health and fitness industry. I have taught cardio kickboxing for LA Fitness, women's workout classes, Turbo Kick and total body conditioning for Cedar Hills Recreation Center, and high-intensity interval training classes for Conestoga Recreation Center. I was involved with the Kid Blitz program for a Portland elementary school and trained the George Fox men's golf team during an off-season. I was a trainer at Empower Fitness in downtown Portland where I did private and group training sessions and teach various class formats. I currently instruct a variety of fitness classes at Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center in Hillsboro as well as VillaSport Athletic Club & Spa in Beaverton. These formats included athletic conditioning classes (a.k.a. “boot camp”), high-intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.), indoor cycling, boxing, step aerobics, low-impact toning, mat Pilates, Tai Chi for better balance, gentle yoga, SilverSneakers, Silver & Fit, cardio dance classes (U-Jam), gentle aqua (shallow warm water pool), aqua total body conditioning (deep & shallow formats) and restorative formats (stretch, foam rolling, etc.) for the City of Hillsboro. I have worked with numerous clients both on a short-term and long-term basis. I currently conduct personal training sessions at the gyms and centers where I currently teach classes but primarily focus on private, in-home training sessions with long-term clientele. I train clients in SW Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Lake Oswego & Aloha. With the guidance of several inspiring mentors, I have gained the knowledge to guide my clients efficiently to their goals. I specialize in one-on-one and small group training sessions with a wide variety of clients. I am able to work with individuals who are new to exercise as well as fitness veterans who with my help have achieved goals beyond their general conditioning plateaus. |
